Mixelman is a award-winning installation for Mercedes-Benz, showcased at the Auto Salon Paris. The idea is simple, record a 10 second move, seeing yourself as a cloud of particles. Minutes later your recording will be shown live on the big video-wall of the exhibition space. Your particle body will automatically be part of a three-dimensional fly-through of a city.
How does this work technically ? We employed a 3D camera (kinect) to create the realtime particle representation of the visitor. Since particles are just chunks of data, it was easy to send them over to the videowall machinery and re-render all the particle people within the new graphical context.
